Crappie Fishing

For some people there is nothing they would like to do more in life than go fishing, and when there is a chance to go for their favorite fish...look out, they are out the door with a cloud of dust behind them. One fish in particular provokes that type of emotion in fishermen, and that is the crappie. Crappie fishing for some is the ultimate in fishing bar none. How to find out where to catch crappie is a known fact to the seasoned angler, but the novice can find answers in books and on the internet if he applies himself and does a little looking.

To make the trip a success, you first should have in mind which kind of crappie you want to fish for. There are two versions of crappie; the white crappie and the black. Both varieties can be found in warmer waters, so your crappie fishing trips should be aimed in that direction and also toward waters that tend to be muddy.

If you are genuinely interested in crappie fishing, then keep in mind that crappie fish travel in large schools and if you want to catch a large number of them, have your strategy in place before you start out. Choosing the right place to fish is a start.

Just like many other fish, crappie fish tend to gravitate toward places where there is lots of protective cover like overhanging rocks or small caves, sunken logs with crevices and small spaces here and there where the fish can hide from predators and just stay out of sight. Once you have found the right area to concentrate on your crappie fishing, the next thing is to get some decent lures that work for crappie.

The lures should work well with the conditions you will be fishing in, the type and condition of the water and the time of day, to name a couple. Match the lures accordingly to fool the crappie and attract them and to do so, some of the more popular lures for crappie fishing are curly tail grubs, beetle spin, maribou jigs, spinners, small gold blade and others.

Now you are pretty much all set to undertake your crappie fishing trip. Springtime is the best time of year for finding large schools of crappie because it is just the beginning of their spawning period, and you will be assured of having a successful trip because the fish will be plentiful.

Remember too that the females and males will not be in the same places in the rivers...the females are found usually in the deeper waters, and the males in the more shallow areas. Where ever you find them, crappie fishing will always provide you with some fun fishing. They test your skill every time you go after them making it a real adventure when you do find a large number of them about and can fish with abandon. Crappie provide not only a lot of fun and action in catching them, but they taste pretty darn good all fried up or grilled sitting on your plate.
